“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” – Batman
Well over here at Seaside Retro, we love saving the planet. One little thing you can do, which will have a huge impact is to get a reusable bottle! Well the lovely people over at Onegreenbottle, Squidmoo and Moon Bottle have put one of their bottles up for grabs!!

I have been looking for the perfect ankle boots for the festival season, and in my search I remembered ordering a friend some epic boots from WVS. They have a huge range of boots, in loads of different colours and styles. It was hard to pick and I love that they have the same style for men or women.
There are loads of different styles and colours, insulated or not. It was so hard to pick and I will be for sure getting more style to add to my wardrobe!
These are just a their dock boots, they also have Chelsea, biker, worker, aviator, western, knee highs, low cut docks, to name a few. They have a huge range of boots, shoes and clothes. All vegan & carbon neutral.
Wills Vegan Store was established in 2012, they are a fully vegan company, who are carbon neutral. Read all about them by clicking here. They use vegan and recycled products to make beautiful clothes, shoes and now have a food store too.
Getting footwear right for festivals is super important, I ended up with blood pouring out of my shoe and being carried back to my van atBoomtown Fair. It look a long time for my big toe to heal and it was painful to walk for a few months. The first thing to get right is your shoes, if your feet are happy, you will have a much better time! Take extra socks and make sure you change them. I know, I sound like a proper mum right now, but trust me, you do not want to end up like I did.
Getting the perfect fit and style for you is important, what I love aboutWVS is they have a huge range to pick from. So be it pumps or boots, you know no animal has been hurt in making them and you are not increasing your carbon foot print even though your buying something new.
Im a size 4 in heals, but to give space for the insulation I changed up to a size 5. I have thin ankles and wide feet so harder for me to get boots perfect. I have lived in these boots, keeping the lacing loose means I can get them on and off quick for the school run. Above photo is on the school run covered in mud. I have been trying a few options for this years festivals and have a vegan pair of Dr.Martens too. At the moment the most cozy and nice to wear is this pair of docks. My DM’s are still having to go in and out of the freezer full of water to stretch them out. Where my docks have been cozy since day one.
I first went for the biker boots, they look so epic & would be perfect to match loads of looks for festivals. I was gutted that my wider feet just couldn’t get on with them, even going up a size. WVS where super helpful in making sure I got the right boots for me, the Docks.
The customer services over at WVS are really lovely and helpful, so don’t worry if you want some advice on sizing.
I’ve had these docks for months now, I waited to write this review till I had seen what they wear in like.
They come up like new, with a wiped down, just warm water and a soft sponge, all of a few minutes. Im not precious over them, walking on the stoney beach, hacking through the woods, in the pouring rain on the school run. They have kept my feet warm, dry and cozy.
Being insulated, they will mean my feet are much warmer. So hot summer festivals, they maybe too warm, but I’m excited to see what they are like, as like most girls, my feet get cold easy!
They have been bashed about loads, yet as you can see there are no marks on them. Hard wearing yet cozy. I love them and I cant wait to be dancing about in the festival fields with them! The look like proper old school worker boots.
Want some new boots, without adding to your carbon foot print, help save animals and the planet? Make a positive choice and head over to WVS.
These are priced at £100 they don’t believe in fast fashion so they won’t change prices or have sales. Priced the same for men and women sizes. (Non insulated are priced at £87.) Comparing these prices to others like DM’s they work out much cheaper.
Victorious is held down on the seaside city of Portsmouth, Hampshire. Started by 3 friends, James Ralls, Ben Miles and Andy Marsh, they started out with the famous Little Johnny Russell’s, in Albert Road, Southsea. I went to the first ever Victorious Festival, when it was held inside the Historical Dockyard. The dockyard was its home for the first two years it was running, but outgrew that space and is now held in Castle Field and the common in Southsea. It was amazing when it was held in the Dockyard, wondering around the boats and listening to the music. I’m exited to see the difference, of this small grassroots festival now having grown much bigger and wiser over the years. Very excited as I have booked our tickets for this years festival!
Southsea Castle, Southsea Skatepark, the D-Day Museumalong with a few other local attractions are inside the festival boundaries while the festival is taking place, so only festival ticket holders have accessible. So far the festival has raised £330,193.52 for charity. The festival supports a number of local and world wide good causes and charities. They ask the closest residents to the festival grounds to help nominate and choose who will benefit from each years donations, involving the local community is really important to them.
They remain very proud of their Portsmouth roots and if you would like to know more about who and what they have donated over the years or would like to nominate a charity please click here for more info.
I was really looking forward to seeing Morcheeba at the 2020 festival, and cant wait to see what they have in the line up for this year. (Though to be fair, covered in glitter and dancing in a field I don’t care what the lineup is, it will still be amazing!) In 2019 there was over 65,000 people all dancing close to the ocean, I cant wait to celebrate festivals reopening in one of my home towns, in the beautiful seaside town of Portsmouth, its super easy to get to by car or train, and you can camp now as well!
This seaside festival has had some big names over the years like, Ray Davies of The Kinks in 2015, Madness in 2017 and The Prodigy in 2018. The festival is held, On The Common (heads up to the Tribe Wars crew on that inside joke) so you get access to the beach, why not wonder down to the waves and take a moment of chill. The location is unlike any other festival, beach side and beautiful, yet in the heart of a huge city!
If your heading to Portsmouth for the first time, why not arrive a day or so early and check out some of the sites, like one of my favourite places, Pie & Vinyl. Shop for some epic records, and have one of their lush pies, their vegan one is one of my all time faves! Don’t worry if you don’t make it to their shop, as they much always have a stall at the festival. The first time I tired one of their pies was in the Dockyard for the first Victorious. Make sure you head to Albert Road, full of independent shops, from old junk shops to cutting edge fashion boutiques.
Victorious Festival has always been well known for providing lots of the mini humans and families. Child day tickets start at just £1.00 for under 5’s and £8.00 for 5-12, a super cheap family day out!
There are lots of options on where to stay if you don’t live locally to Portsmouth. Camping available in the Farlington Fields just outside the city, with shuttle buses to the festival. You could book one of the many city hotels, b&b’s or guest houses. (Please check out all the options, as I don’t know what restrictions the hotels may have for late arrivals etc or what their availability will be like.) Even The University of Portsmouth is offering up some great value accommodation, meaning you will only be a short walk to the festival. (More information coming soon on that!) You can check out their info on where to stay by clicking here.
If your local to Portsmouth, did you spot the sign “WE MISS YOU” sign, they wanted to let everyone know just how much they where missed. Along with the sign, they opened up some exciting competitions and early bird prices for tickets!
Now that the government has got its road map in place, planning for Victorious 2021 is very much underway! Ive brought my tickets and I cant wait to see what they have planned for us!
In the UK we have an amazing choice of festivals, add this one to your bucket list, as its not like any other. A bustling seaside city, access to the beach, cultural sites as well as everything you would expect from a UK music festival.
I’m writing this article in the cold harsh craziness which is November 2020. I’m missing raves so much it hurts, I just want to dance with my friends in the mud of a UK festival! Praying most days that festivals will be allowed to rave on next year…
In fact I pretty much gave up trying to be positive about festivals happening and walked away from this article. Then the news came, that maybe, just maybe we may get to dance in them fields again together, so here it is:
“let the music play…”
I know that when we can all dance together again, it will be an explosion of sparkles and love! Here are just a few of my top looks, keep en eye out for part 2!
All that Glitters – Sparkles, Rainbows & Sequins
After such a dark and lonely time, I am sure we will be overloading on glitter, sparkles and bold loud colours! How epic are these rainbow jumpsuits fromThe Life Of Oreilly? Add a little sparkle with these Pink & Gold Mermaid Reversible Sequin bum bag from Hand Made By Janel (team up the sparkles with jeans and they pop even more). Want some epic ‘out there’ sunglasses? Head over toPearls and Swine.
Wearable art, big bold necklaces and headdresses! More light up clothing and lots of DIY items. How about these ponies? Get yours fromPearls and Swine. I love these light up shoes fromFlash Wear(they also sell light up masks). A rainbow cape from Sophie Nina. Think rainbows, sparkles, bright and bold, light ups and shouting, ‘LET US CELEBRATE!’
Heres me a few years ago, handmade the night before. Gold romper, headdress, teamed with wig and covered in glitter.
Gold, sliver, light ups at night, sparkles, big head dresses and lots (ok loads) of glitter. Normally it’s how to stand out from the crowd… but I think on the most part, it will be a case of throwing glitter and sparkles at everyone!
“Where words leave off, music begins.” – Heinrich Heine
You can’t plan out festival outfits without adding a ‘Woodstock’ look. 1970’s looks hasn’t really ever gone out of fashion. Prairie dresses are so easy to wear. Perfect for warm weather (simply layer up on colder days). They have unique patterns, so they always stand out. Feel like a princess in a flowing dress. They can look great with warrior sandles or big biker boots. Finish your look off with a flower crown and your golden!
My mother was a hippy and looking back over her photos is such a window into the world she grew up in. She has some amazing stories and I keep on at her to create a book using her letters she used to send home. She used to wear lots of vintage petticoats and big boots. It’s a great way to still wear a dress but be warm. I have been given some of my prairie dresses and some I have found on eBay. Keep an eye in the shops too, as I can see this style of dress coming back in again 😉
Perfect boots to team with this look are the Insulated Dock Boots from Wills Vegan Store. They have extra insulation to keep your toes warm! Full review of these coming soon, as I am currently putting them through their paces!
A great way to achieve my mum’s look of vintage petticoats and big boots is long tutu skirts. The tutu skirts give such a funky mix of soft & playful against the hardness of big boots. The grey one is from Matchimonyand cream sparkles from Sienna New York.
Here’s me and my best mate Silke at a festival a few years back. This is the same dress from the photo pictured further above and you can see how much the pattern really catches the light. I had a small bag with a cardy sling over it for when the temp had started to drop.
“Music is the universal language of mankind.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
In the 80’s – Bold Contrasting Patterns
Building for years now, has been the 80’s look within urban streetwear. Big and bold clashing patterns and colours. Oversized jackets, bumbags, caps and a mix of street and workout clothing. I think we will see a return to boomer jackets and large fake fur/sheep coats. A big move towards more bold strong African, Geometric and Aztec prints.
Check outJackfuit for the joggers and hoodie above. It’s easy to mix vintage finds in with a few new pieces to help you create this look on a budget (and help our planet). Have a look at this Geometric Print Tee Top fromVintage Rouge Vintage.
Beautiful bold African print handmade bumbags and head bands from Lolly Kiks. Made from recycled materials is theTeddy Coatfrom Wills Vegan Store. Want to hit that 1980’s ‘Del Boy’ look bang on? Check out their Shearling Coat, a sheep coat without animals products. Amazing statement African print trousers from RINM CLOTHING.
Lily Grace with her second-hand coat from Oxfam! Keeping you warm as the sun goes down but also bang on the 1980’s big oversized fur coats look.
“Music is the soul expressing itself.” – Chris Harris
All The Fun Of the Fair – Feathers & Frills
When we get back into those festival fields, it will be a huge celebration. A carnival of noise, love and costumes. Big bold headdresses, filled with flowers and feathers. Patterns & sparkles. Check outSophie Ninafor the psychic patterned leotard and leggings. Gold two piece from Lady Jane Bristol. Jungle headdress from Jezebels Fascination.
Rachel Shearer, looking and feeling fabulous in her show girl look. Feathers… sparkles, this is a show stopping look to head into the fields with.
“Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.” – Edward Bulwer Lytton
These are just a few of my favourite looks. There are hundreds of styles and you can mix and match to find you within them. Now for a few ‘must haves’. These are great items, which will set the tone for your look or become your go-to item. I will be writing up some articles on a full festival wardrobe soon, I’ll be talking about how much to take and all the different looks you can create from a few key items. In the meantime, here are some items I think will be hot for this summer!
Must Have Items
Take To The Skies – Bomber Jackets
Super easy to wear, matches up with loads of other looks. It’s no wonder they haven’t gone anywhere, dating all the way back to 1915. The UK was the first country to introduce the leather bomber jacket.
You can not beat a good pair of dungarees! I still have mine from traveling to Canada aged 13. You can style them in so many ways. A cute sparkly bikini underneath, or a big over sized wool jumper on top. The style combinations to work with your favourite dungers are endless! I think they are a must-have for any wardrobe, you can keep them low or roll them up, easy to wear and easy to dress up/down.
No matter what style you go for, they are so easy to wear and will become part of your ‘go to’ wardrobe. Looking for an easy ‘retro look’? Jean dungarees or plain, with a red scarf tied in your hair. Done!
Play Time – Jumpsuits, Playsuits, Catsuits & Rompers
All in ones are perfect for festivals, they are one of my personal go to’s. A romper can change it’s look so much by adding coloured tights, adding a large headdress or teaming it with big boots and wings. Jumpsuits, catsuits, rompers, playsuits and leotards are a great place to start when looking at outfits.
The playsuits in different colours, fromLady Jane Bristol. Epic over the top, wide legged jumpsuit is from Tashas Clothing (there is a belt to match which makes a more fitted look). Winter Ski Suit fromSki Suits, they have some brilliant colours (I highly recommend Ski Suits for festivals, perfect for cold and wet events. I got my original 1980’s one fromPreLoved Kilo. You can now order a mixed box from them while we wait for the pop ups to reopen).
Add a headdress to any outfit, it will work and it will take you to the next level. Add a coloured wig and you will feel like a new person, any gender can wear them and the bolder the better I say! Headdresses above from Luna Blue Collection. I make all mine myself but if you don’t fancy that, there are some epic sellers out there. Looking for ideas of what you want? Check out my Pinterest board.
Hats, flower headdresses, turbans, scarfs, a simple daisy chain, they take you out of every day life and into something different.
Kids love headdresses too, my little girl is often found running around with one of mine on her head. So much so, she has asked me to make her some now. To be fair, she does look adorable in them!
Legs for Days – Leggings
You can’t go wrong with a few pairs of leggings, no matter your style you will find ones which work for you. I love them with an over sized jumper on cold days, they look epic with boots, trainers… well, anything. You can team it up with a matching top to give the jumpsuit look, with an easy out for loo trips 😉
High waisted leggings and matching tees above from Sophie Nina.
Patchwork Leggings (currently in a sale) and matching tops fromCrooked Store. If you’re packing light for festivals, leggings are perfect. You can totally change the look with a different top, headdress or coat. Add dark leggings and bright leg-warmers to give you a whole other look (leg warmers also give your ankles extra warmth on cold nights and help to support your ankles by warming them up before dancing).
I love light up clothing. I need, need the light up shoes from the start of this write up (go bold!). Here are some epic light up ideas. Interactive Green Glow T-shirt fromIlluminated Apparel GB. Light up hoodie from Your Mind Your World.
What I like about this one, is it just looks like a normal coat, then boom! Another one fromYour Mind Your World.
Add this item and we are living some sort of futuristic life, another one fromEtere Stop
Getting hold of light up tech clothing is still harder in the UK but more and more people are creating their own. LED strip lights are pretty easy to get hold of. I know loads have been using lockdown as a way of honing their skills to make costumes and outfits for festivals. I do think we will see an explosion of creativity!
These stunning items are from Jarlia By Jolina. I have always loved larger statement pieces when it comes to jewellery, imagine the sun hitting that wrist cuff above! (They also offer 20% off on your first order when you join their VIP list, check out the link for more info.)
The feather necklace, earrings and bracelet above are made by hand-cutting reclaimed rubber from tyre inner tubes. Beautiful and easy to wear in a festival environment. These wonderful recycled items are from Paguro Upcycle. Bold jewellery choices I think will be making their mark this year. More statement pieces, larger sizing or cheeky jewellery. Laser cut ‘DISCO’ from The Crafty Anteater.
“Life seems to go on without effort when I am filled with music.” – George Eliot
So my hot looks this summer are; lots of rainbow sparkles, big bold colours, patterns and prints. Cyber Punk will be a super hot look, I am currently working on some ideas for this now. There will be lots of light up clothing and items, wearable art and handmade craft items.
Keep an eye on the website for tips on vintage shopping and the best wardrobes for festivals and craft tips. I am working with an amazing costume creator and I’m looking forward to sharing something fantastic with you soon!
Some of the above companies I have ordered from before, some are new. I will be reviewing a few items from this article so keep a look out. I always try to add vegan, reused, low environmental impact, handmade and UK companies. That being said some of the items in this write up are from outside of the UK, so please check for extra charges when ordering due to Brexit. I’m very excited to show you my ‘mini festival wardrobe’, how to get the most out of your outfits – coming soon!
Have you seen something you think should be on here? Send me a message or email me: email@example.com
Can’t wait to dance with you all in the fields soon! Alice xx
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score, on and on
Does anybody know what we are looking for?”
2020 has by far been one of the hardest, weirdest years for most of the world. The year of fear and loss, a brake in the music, a time to relook at our lives and count our blessings. We entered 2021 thinking that it would be more of the same, ‘to dare to dream’ for things to go back to normal.
I miss my mum, hugging my friends, somehow I miss the school run (mostly for all the hugs and chats…) Last year I lost one of my friends, I lost my income and fell into a little bit of a low zone. Like most of the world, found it hard to cope with huge changes and no end in sight.
A group of us got together and started #WeNeedEvents we wanted to support the events industry from the side of the ticket holder. We miss our families, friends, and all the events we would go to with them. This brought us all lots of hope and lifted our spirits.
This week big news came from the government that maybe, just maybe festivals would be able to open this year. Huge news, still such early doors, with lots of bumps ahead but maybe, just maybe we can dance together again this summer!
“The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
Inside my heart is breaking
My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on”
A road map given by the government leading to slowly one by one, festivals started to post on social media that they where going ahead. We are not out of the woods yet! (I unfortunately have little faith in our government, still 3million people without support and no government backed insurance.) We still need to support our much loved festivals and large events but I think we can maybe dare to dream! We need too, without something to look forward too its harder to keep strong.
WE WILL HUG, DANCE AND PARTY TOGETHER AGAIN
“I’ll soon be turning, round the corner now Outside the dawn is breaking But inside in the dark I’m aching to be free
The show must go on The show must go on”
So hunt out your top festivals and get buying tickets, you can show your faith in them the most by buying a ticket. It may not be the same festival we are used to but being in a field, feeling the base line and seeing our friends has got to be worth a few changes! I am myself high risk, and many members of my family and friends are too. This week I had my vaccine, then came the news that Boomtown Fair is going ahead! Read their statement here. Im so excited!! Ive just seen they are fully sold out, so keep an eye out for the return sale in may, to get an email about it click here.
So expect lots of posts from me, from what the hot looks are going to the this year to how to get fit fast….(Yep about 2 extra stone, thanks lockdown!)
“I’ll top the bill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the show
Show must go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on”
The show must go on, when its safe to do so. To help support your much loved events, check out We Need Events.
I cant wait to dance in them fields with you all, big love – Alice xx

Boomtown announces Chapter One: The Gathering
Chapter One: The Gathering
A deep part of human connection and celebration throughout the millennia has been a gathering of people. Connecting through shared experiences of dance and song. Before there was paper, and film, there was the spoken word. Our memories in boded in stories and songs, passed down through the generations.
Just the simple meeting of friends has been outlawed over these drastic times of 2020. Next August we will come together again, a gathering of the citizens of Boomtown is just what we have longed so much for.
This break in the music, has allowed Boomtown Fair, the UK’s largest independent festival, incarnate its self. To look back over its journey from Old Town to the giant city of 2019.
Some of the big changes include, they are no longer going to release the line up, they have changed the layout of the festival, also introducing a new story and have reduced ticket prices! The 2021 tickets on sale tonight (01/10/2020) at 7pm.
‘Wow, so here we are, at the very start of a brand new journey together…
Since we last danced in the rolling fields of Hampshire in August 2019, whether we feel it, know it or want it to be; life is different now. As a festival community, we’ve embraced this chance to pause and set about ripping up our own rulebook; we’ve kept the best bits, dug deep into what our ethos means to us and reset the rest!
We’re so happy to finally share with you our vision of a different world, our pledge to make sure we live true to the depths our ethos can go, and our commitment to putting on the best party imaginable.‘
“Resetting from the foundations to allow us to really get things right and to be the forward-thinking, progressive, and inspirational festival community we know we can be. By starting a brand new story with Chapter One: The Gathering, this allows us even more scope to start afresh, with our ethos, creativity and ambition all aligning into one combined vision.”
Boomtown is never one to shy away from being different, to putting its hand up first, and they have paved the way to a better festival experience by doing so. Its a big bold move to no longer release the line up ahead of the event. They will be keeping many of the acts secret right up till just before the festival. For me that just build the excitement! To read more about theirMusic line up changes click here.
Commenting on this big change in music strategy, the Boomtown team says; “We have spent months debating whether this was the right thing to do but what is clear, is that there are many aspects to the way the music industry runs that don’t work for independent festivals. The complex process of releasing a music line-up with the exclusivity, billing and escalating costs has led us to decide this is the time to rethink the way we approach it and explore new ways of doing things.”
“We have always been a creatively led festival and people attend Boomtown because of the overall experience; we will continue to book incredible headline artists, and all the festival favourites, but by approaching our programming announcements in this radical way, we can create lineups that are even more phenomenal and diverse than we have ever been able to before.” Boomtown Founders
If you have read some of my write ups before you will know all about ‘Boomtown Left Toe’ There is a lot of walking, its a large site and spread out over hills….Well…Another change released in today’s announcement is that Boomtown has reimagined the festival layout. This is big news! The Main City and its unique worlds will all now be located in what was previously known as ‘Downtown Boomtown’. For the first time ever, they will be using every inch of the ‘Downtown’ valley. They go all out in their set design, so a huge big rethink is going to lead to their most detailed city yet!
Every one of their main stages is a new concept for this new Chapter. By changing the layout like this, it will give a central hub to the festival. All around the city will be beautiful, forest chillouts and woodland parties we love to escape to. Giving the new city 3 main sections; Main City, The Forests/Woodland areas and the Campsites. In the place campsites spread over the whole site, there will now be 3 main campsites. They will be surrounding the woodland stages, over looking the city. Each of the campsite will have its own central hub, warm and inviting. They will create a shared community space, a village of its own outside the main city. Click here for a look at the New City.
Who would have thought back in 2019, that Boomtown would have announce their next chapter as ‘State of Emergency.’ They couldn’t have predicted our world closer! Chapter One ‘The Gathering, is taking us to the world post pandemic, where the city is rising from he ashes of the old. A whole new world (see what I did there) accompanied by a new story, ready to be told that focuses on reflection, acceptance and reconnection.
2021 is going to be our celebration, a time to come together, to gather, to reflect and move forward.
Proving at every turn that Boomtown Fair is more than just an event but a family, they have reduced the ticket prices. (All current ticket holders will get a partial refund!)
“With so many people going through so much right now, we felt it was vital for us to reduce theticket price to make it easier to attend for all. By reimagining how we run and create Boomtown,we’ve been able to reduce the ticket price, but also enhance the parts that make us a truly uniqueexperience.” Boomtown founders
Over 90% of the 2020 ticket holders choose to support Boomtown by rolling their 2020 tickets over to 2021. This means there is now less than half the ticket allocation remaining!!
Tickets to this new world go live at 7pm tonight! I know I for one don’t want to miss out, there is no town like Boomtown!
‘Despite all the negatives and losses of this time, people have also connected and collaborated as never before, to support and protect each other, strangers and friends alike.‘
I have fallen in love with this little thing! Its cute, small, light weight and easy to hold. When I saw it on their website I didn’t think it would be the bottle for me, and went off to look at the pretty patterned ones. Well I have changed my mind, this little bottle suits me down to the ground! Thats something they have really got right, different bottles for different needs. There is no point in buying a reusable bottle unless you are going to use it, so getting the right one for you is important!
Heres me with my epic mate Sophie, at our Mini At Home Boomtown Fair. I can not put into words how much I have missed festivals this year, have I mentioned it?? Its a lot.. my poor other half has heard not much else. Me all looking sad and like, but I miss it. 😦
Check out the little One Green Bottle in the above photo! Like I said, cute, little and easy to hold. Their bottles come in loads of different styles, with different sorts of caps to make sure it matches you and your needs. This little guy can easy hang off a belt! Making it perfect for a festival.
It comes with the Quench Cap, perfect for drinking on the go. Be that at the gym, climbing a hill or well doing all that at a festival! Also perfect for the little people in your life, can clip onto their school bag and they can be personalised with their name on!
Their curvy canteen bottles come in 350ml and 500ml size. I really like the little 350ml, as I like to be as light weight as possible when at an event. (Yes I am terrible for getting someone else carrying a bottle of water, well no more with this little guy!) At events like Boomtown Fair, they have made sure that you cant go to far without coming across a water station. So a smaller light weight bottle is perfect as you can travel light and fill up as you go!
At our little mini home boomtown I may have filled it with rum and coke….and yes it was lovely! 😉
So what is about One Green Bottle which makes them epic?
They are an ‘Impact Partner’ of PlasticBank. So for every single bottle they sell they recover 25 single use plastic bottles from the ocean!
So not only are you stopping your self from buying more single use bottles, you are removing another 25 from the ocean! When you keep in mind they think there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050, this is pretty epic! Did you know those throw away bottles and plastic reusable ones, can be full of harmful chemicals too!
‘Our mission is to provide sustainable alternatives to the most problematic single use items. We do this with integrity with a product range that is good to the core. Our suppliers pass social and environmental compliance audits, ISO9001 and product quality tests and our route to market is as environmentally respectful as possible. All of our products have zero plastic packaging and this year we hope to achieve zero carbon emission status. In 2020 we officially became ‘Plastic Positive’ as part of an impact program to extract plastic pollution from our oceans and to help reduce poverty. For every single bottle we sell we remove 25 single use plastic bottles from the ocean. Each onegreenbottle can then be used for years and years and replace thousands of single use plastic bottles during its lifetime.’
They have really though through everything. Right down to their packaging, no point in making a reusable bottle and then packing it in plastic! Coming in these fun tubs, which you can reuse. Mine is sat on my desk full of pens.
My top choices are from their little 350ml range. Like I said, I like to travel light. At big events you can just fill up as you go, or perfect for the little people in your life too! Click here for their range of 350ml bottles.
Lets talk about caps, as they have a few different options (some bottle will come with a set style so double check when you have found the right bottle for you, what it already comes with!)
Most of their caps have something you can attach to, so it can hang from a belt or bag. Really depends on which option works for you, I really like the quench cap. I am the sort of person who is used to straws and it doesn’t take much for me to tip a drink over my self. (Still cry over the baileys all down my great grand mothers dress…) So this easy to use cap works for me! You can add the internal straw too. Their straws are not made from plastic but silicone! Some of their caps, including the quench cap is made from plastic but they are made from BPA/BPS free non leaching polypropylene, with a BPA /BPS free silicone seal and air valve.
Want to stay away from plastic and like the steel cap or push down ones more. Don’t worry, like I said they have thought of almost everything with these loop carriers, made from silicone. Makes it easy to carry your bottle or gives you something to clip onto. Easy to hang off your hand, bag or belt! Perfect if you have picked a cap without built in clip. 😉
You can personalise them too! Click here for all the details. Adding a word, saying and or image! Making it a perfect gift, school bottle or a treat for your self.
There bottles start from just £12.00 (some in the sale for just £10.00!!) and they come from a company who are passionate about zero plastic packaging. Obsessive over reducing their carbon footprint and crazy about ethical production. Who are a Plasticbank Impact Partner, invested in collecting plastic rubbish. Providing infrastructure for plastic trash processing, reducing plastic pollution and poverty! So you can not only have a fun, easy to use bottle which does its job well but be happy in the knowledge you just did something good for the planet too!
They are the original supplier of stainless steel eco-friendly drinks bottles and lunchboxes. (Yes they do lunchboxes too!) I love that they have some with a classic wide mouth bottles for easy cleaning, easy filling.
“The Earth is a fine place and worth fighting for.”Ernest Hemingway
I highly recommend the 350ml curvy bottle! I passed it around at our Boomtown fair at home party and everyone kept commenting how lovely it was to hold. It just fits, and its very light weight. To keep it light weight its not insulated only skinned. This means it won’t give keep your water cold for 24hrs or hot for 12hrs. Having said that its perfect for adventures at festivals, light weight even when full, so easy to carry all day. Small so just refill at a filling station, meaning you don’t have to carry a large bottle all day and one which is still heavy/bulky when empty. Wow I read that back and I am mad for this little bottle. I sound like a window sales ‘person’ (we are in 2020 after all) I don’t not all window sales people are full on, just the ones who knock at my door lols. Out of the bottles I have tried this is the one which I pick to use so thats says a lot!
Boomtown has announced a reduction in ticket price for 2021
Hot off the press, Boomtown Fair have reduced their ticket prices for 2021. Once again proving that they put their citizens first! A lot of us have been hit by the madness which is 2020 and they have given us all a BIG light at the end of the tunnel!
Its the UK’s largest independent, theatrically led festival. While the music was paused the team at HQ took the time to really think about their journey so far and where they wanted to take the story.
Commenting on the change in pricing strategy Boomtown founders said; “With so many people going through so much right now, we felt a reduction in ticket price was vital. By reimagining how we run and create Boomtown, we’ve been able to reduce the price, but also enhance the parts that make us a truly unique experience.” Boomtown describes itself as: ‘A living theatre that ignites imagination and inspires the emergence of a better world through respect, connection, creativity and celebration.’
One of the things I love so much about Boomtown is not only its connection to the music and the ‘show’ but also to the earth and its citizens. We don’t feel like just a ticket number, but can choose to become part of the story. They listen to us, its truly an interactive and subversive world. You as a citizen can choose how deep into the maze you want to fall!
Boomtown Fair yet again showing how much they care about its citizens.
Each year, this five day event has come to life as a fully interactive film like movie set. Its hundreds of actors helping to bring this city to life, along with its countless venues and streets for you to roam down and explore. Not only bring some of the best mix of music but holding strong to its ethos on environmental awareness, social equality and self discovery. You can really find yourself at Boomtown.
When the tickets for 2021 go on sale, they will simultaneously unveil the new creative direction. Which I can not be more excited for, looking back at what was the tag line for this year, is a scary realisation of how close Boomtown predicted the state of our modern world now! Over half of the ticket holders for 2020 held onto their tickets to roll over to next year. Showing their support for the festival industry during these challenging times. Tickets will be flying out of the door so make sure you have a look at all the different options and instalment plans. They are moving away from the Tiering system in favour of ticketing Phases. This means that there will be more tickets available at a lower cost, for longer. Yet again thinking of the ticket holder and how they can make this easier for us. Click here for the ticket page which will have all the breakdowns. Don’t worry an automatic partial refund will be sent to all the citizens, who where able to hold onto this years ticket. (Inline with the lowest priced tier for 2021!)
At 7pm on the 1st of October 2020 we will not only be able to buy our magical ticket into the story of Boomtown Fair but we will also get our first proper look at what we will be in store for!
One of the things we sometimes forget is how important drinking enough water is. Did you know around 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills every single day, and Americans alone send more than 38 billion water bottles to landfills every year, the equivalent of 912 million gallons of oil.**
One bottle can take on average 450 years to completely decompose. Some types can take far longer, up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. Currently only about 10% of plastic bottles are recycled!
Each and every year, we are putting round 8 million metric tons of plastic in our oceans. That’s the equivalent of a rubbish truck emptying plastic into the ocean every single minute. Let that sink in, while your sitting on the beach looking out to our beautiful oceans, there is a rubbish truck pulling up next to you every single minute.
Its estimated that around 13 billion plastic bottles are used in the UK every year. Unfortunately only around 7.5 billion of which are recycled. The remaining 5.5 billion end up in landfills or the ocean. Don’t be part of the problem, get a reusable bottle!
“Don’t be drastic; Say “NO” to plastic.”
I know the title is Festivals and Bottles; when your away its easy to think, ‘oh its only a few days, I cant be bothered to carry a bottle with me…’
I also don’t want you dancing all day in the heat and forgetting to drink enough water. I know if you have a bottle on you, your more likely to drink it. Also there is a very real and dangerous risk, if your not drinking water when playing with recreational drugs. (Don’t over drink too, look for ‘The Loop’ at your festival. Click here for the website.) I know, I know, I am a rave mum! I don’t care what you do as long as long as you are being safe.
So what now I have thrown loads of facts at you, what is the best bottle for you? There are a ton of options, but which one is right for you? What bottle is perfect for a festival?
Ive been sent two very different bottles from two different companies
to test out. Both little different and different styles of lids too.

The bottles feel lovely to hold, easy to use. For me they are a little heaver, this is due to their thicker installation. My Moon bottle currently lives on my desk full of coffee, keeping it warm and making sure I don’t come back to a cold forgotten coffee! In my option this is going to be my go to camping bottle. Around the campfire in the evening, lovely hot coffee. Knowing what the UK weather can be like, having one like this will be pretty good for them cold festival days wondering about. Taking my coffee with me! It will keep your water cold for 24hrs too! So a hot day, you know you will have lovely cold water to hand.
‘By 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish according to environmental scientists.’

Do the planet a BIG favour and go grab yourself a reusable bottle!
Whats the best water bottle for a festival? There are a lot of bottles on the market, and more new companies coming out bottles all the time. Just pop to your local supermarket and there will be lots of options. So what is the best one for you and the festival your going too. I hope this write up has helped you to make that choice. Do you like packing your bottle away in a bag, like it hanging from a belt? Like to carry it in your hand? Want an inbuilt water system? (I will come back to this topic again as there are more different options than just a stand alone bottle. What I am hoping is that reusable bottle will become the norm and another way to show off your personal style too. Lets all move away from throw away plastics and get a reusable bottle 😉
Very different bottles, which are really showing off the differences between these two festivals. Love that they have their brands on them. The Glastonbury Chilly’s one is BPA free, made with high-grade stainless steel. Keeps drinks cold for 24hrs and hot for 12hrs due to being insulated. Glastonbury also have a steel 500ml which £2 from each sale goes to WaterAid. The Boomtown bottle is 800ml, you can choose between a screw cap or sports lid.
We have just been sent a bottle from Root7 to try as well, so will be adding this to this page too. Keep an eye out for full reviews on the One Green Bottle, Moon Bottle and the Root7. Thank you for all the lovely comments, about which are your favourites. Lots of love for the Boomtown Fair Logo bottle and the 500ml Glasto bottle. Also Water To Go these bottles filter the water for you, be that from a puddle! Great for the big outdoors and traveling. Sandra Storm managed to run over her SIGG with a truck twice and its still going strong SIGG Bottle, she also has the top tip of using it as a hot water bottle at night. Some love too for The Big Bottle Co which you can personalise with stickers.
I wanted to shine a light on festival traders, many hit by events for 2020 being cancelled. They are mostly made up of small independent companies, who make a large part of their income at events throughout the summer. I like to leave at least one thing off my pre-festival buy list, so I can go on a hunt through the stalls when I’m there. It’s always an amazing mix of so many different things that you can’t just go grab at your local high street – well not mine anyway! Over the next few weeks I am going to put the spotlight on these traders, so we are not missing out!
A little facebook group has been started up to help these traders reach out and sell their fab stuff. You never know what you will find in a field in the English countryside! Click here for the link.
“And you light up my life
You give me hope to carry on

They use recycled silk to make these epic jumpsuits, ensuring that silk is not wasted. I am a vegan and I can’t bear the idea that products made from animals are just thrown away. So it’s really good to see thrown away things can be given a new life.
“Cause you, you light up my life
You give me hope to carry on
You light up my days and fill my nights with song“
They have a wide range of different items, from jumpers to jumpsuits. Check out these epic Vegan “Wool” Hooded Poncho priced at £28.00. Click here for the mens version.
“Could it be finally I’m turnin’ for home?
Finally a chance to say “Hey, I love you”
Never again to be all alone“
So as a vegan family why do they use silk?
“As a vegan family and predominantly vegan business, we often get asked why we use recycled silk for some of our clothing
In India, silk is mainly used for making saris. Any leftover silk goes to landfill and that’s that. While ideally, we may prefer silk not to be used at all, we are glad that we are able to recycle this fabric into these stunning dresses and jumpsuits, rather than it going to waste
Our lovely beach dresses, Tinkerbell dresses and jumpsuits are all made from 100% recycled silk. So you know that this fabric would just be thrown away, completely unused otherwise .”
